Sasa Cabalquinto is a Manila-based Butoh artist, actor, performance maker, and cultural worker. Her interdisciplinary practice explores postcolonial embodiment, memory, womanhood, and socio-political histories through movement and performance. Drawing from Butoh, physical theater, and Filipino ritual traditions, her work investigates the politics of the body as a site of personal and collective transformation. She is the founder and director of Kapwa Movement, an independent artist-led platform that supports the development, exchange, and visibility of Butoh practice in the Philippines, and the initiator of the Asia Butoh Gathering, a regional platform connecting Butoh artists, researchers, and cultural workers across Asia. Sasa is an Asian Cultural Council Fellow for Dance, a Japan Foundation Manila Asia Arts and Culture Grantee, and the recipient of the Best Performance Award at the 2024 Singapore International Film Festival. Her work has been presented in festivals, residencies, and performance platforms across Asia and internationally.
