Kapadpada

Kapadpada is a powerful ensemble of music, dance, and theater that uncovers the painful history of indigenous Filipinos who were exhibited at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. Through its moving narrative, the production addresses the enduring stereotypes and racial injustices surrounding the “human zoo” phenomenon. Despite facing deep indignity and hardship, the Igorot and indigenous communities display remarkable strength, dignity, and resilience. Ultimately, Kapadpada serves as an eye-opening exploration of historical injustice that challenges cultural misunderstandings and celebrates the unbroken spirit of indigenous peoples.

About the Artist

The Saint Louis University Dance Troupe is the official resident dance company of Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Philippines. Established in May 1993 under the university’s Center for Culture and the Arts, the group showcases a dynamic blend of traditional Philippine folk dance, contemporary styles, and modern hip-hop. Through major productions, campus performances, and regional showcases, the ensemble serves as a vital platform for artistic excellence and the promotion of Cordilleran and Filipino cultural heritage.
